This never happened before (which was before junking my old PC and installing on a new PC which has accumulated far less junk than the old one.

I'd sure hate to have to start searching for files to move temporarily from C elsewhere. Note that I have hardly any applications installed in C:\Program files (only those which offer no choice); and I have few file in C:\Documents and Settings (as I've redirected My Documents, My Pictures, etc., to other partitions). And I cleaned out temporary files and temp directories before trying to make the Disaster Recovery image.
P.S. I used the forums' search feature and located several relevant items, but when I clicked the link to any of those items, I was returned to the main forum page -- so impossible to find the actual posts!

Backup Data Transfers

My question is not necessarily about Retrospect but on some backup strategies.

We are presently using Retrospect 7.5 with all of the latest updates/fixes. We are using Microsoft Server 2003 Standard on a computer with 2 GB RAM and 3 1-TB hard drives. Our backup strategy is to perform normal backups with many file exclusions on a daily basis.

Now for the problem. We want to move our backup sets from our backup server to external hard drives for off-site storage. Our external hard drives are Lacie 1 TB drives. USB transfer is too slow to make this transfer effective so we are moving up to Firewire 800 ports. The USB transfer of approximately .8+ TB takes almost 20 hours and degrades backup server operation.

Does anyone have any possible suggestions on faster transfers from server to external hard drives?

Catch this good opportunity for all

"Hi All, I introduce you to a brand new software application through which you can

Right now, I archive completed jobs to a storage set, and then I run a second backup to a separate storage set. Which can take 6-8 hours to complete, depending on how busy we've been.

When we retrieve files, we use storage set #1, and if a tape fails, then we try to retrieve from storage set #2.

Is there a way to perform both backups simetaneously? I have a tape library that has 1 drive internally, but has room for a second drive, and I have two externals, so I could pull the drive out of one of the externals to put in the library, but I want to find out if Retrospect will allow two backups to occur at the same time.

I don't necessarily want two backup sets. I would prefer to have one storage set, and if a tape fails, then I'd have an EXACT copy of it that I could pull and replace the damaged tape entirely.
I used to work at a place that had a tape system that would take two tapes in it, and then when we ran an immediate backup in Retrospect, it would simultaneously write the data to both tapes. Ultimately that's what I'd really like to achieve.

Thanks in advance for any ideas.
