i can restore and verify uncompressed dds4 tapes fine but if i try to restore even one file from a compressed tape the progress bar and the drive (after winding to the appropriate spot) just sit there and do nothing. there is no activity on the drive (busy/tape/etc) and as far as i can see nothing else happens.

my (admittedly hazy) recollection is that we were using retro4 at the time and this required the advanced driver kit. if i'm using retro5.1 i shouldn't need this, right?

any suggestions as to how i can progress?
Just installed Retrospect Backup 5.0 Server edition.
I only want to back up the SERVER - not dealing with clients...
Installed, serial numbered but get message
<< Can't open the operations log, error -48,(duplicate name) It is already open in another application>>

Can anybody explain this to me? awaiting response from Dantz/EMC...

Deleted the program, reinstalled, serial numbered, set up a quick script, scheduled to run in 5 minutes time and it performed writing to external drive...hopeful I thought. Set up another more practical script and this time QUIT Retrospect to see if automated schedule would kick in - it tried to start up , but once again the message:
<< Can't open the operations log, error -48,(duplicate name) It is already open in another application>> appears - any thoughts.

Os x server 10.4.7 running on a G4 as a fileserver, Retrospect 5.0.205 (server edition 20 user - I only want to back up the Mac that has our centralised , shared files)

OH! and can't send the registration form via internet is this because of EMC/Dantz takeover, perhaps? It is V5.0 but is BNIB and I hoped some support might be available...
