I have Retrospect Express and using it with a Lacie 500gb Hard drive. I am not overly computer literate, but have managed to have my data being backed up from my Macintosh eMac on to the Lacie. However, it seems as if my iPhoto is continuously and automatically being backed up, ie: as soon as I put a photo(s) in the iPhoto program, it is instantly backed up in the Lacie HD. Is there a way I can stop it doing this and have it so all my internal HD data is backed up at the same time when I press the Lacie Shotcut button and not have iPhoto backed up continuously? Hope this makes sense and thanks for any assistance.

scripts changing

hi,

i am backing up several volumes off a samba mounted drive on my iMac. for example, i am backing up the volumes data20 and data40. i made a script for backing up data20 (alone) as a file to an external drive. i saved it and it executed fine.

when the computer was restarted and retrospect express started back up, it ran the data20 script, but instead backed up data40 to the external drive file for data20. in another instance, it backed up only one volume within a higher level directory that was supposed to be backed up (and that lower level volume showed up in the list of volumes to select without me defining it).

i'm not sure how/why it changed the scripts without any intervention.

any thoughts on what i should do next? i fixed them all by hand, but i don't want it to happen in the future. is backing up through a samba mounted volume not supported? (i am running mac os x) i don't really want to pay the $70 to talk to customer support, but this seems like a pretty big issue.

thanks for your help!
None of my .numbers spreadsheets seem to have been backed up!
Has anyone else noticed that Retrospect just doesn't back up files with names ending in .numbers? Or is this just on my machine (a G4 using 10.4.11)? Any idea what might be the cause?

I am using latest Retrospect 6.1.138 and I have done everything its Read Me suggests. I have also been to the EMC Retrospect web-site and downloaded the article about the problem. And everything there has already been implemented.

the install appears to happen without problems, but when we try to run Retrospect (either from the Applications directory, or with the drive's push-button), the app appears in the doc for a moment, then disappears.

a system dialog then appears saying:

Quote:

The application Retrospect Express quit unexpectedly.
Mac OS X and other applications are not affected.

Click Reopen to open the application again. Click Report to see more details or send a report to Apple.

i've sent the report to Apple. we also filed a support request with Acomdata, in case this is a known problem with version they bundled with the drive.

however, since this looks most like a Retrospect-specific problem, this forum seems like the most likely place for a real solution.

i've tried applying the 6.1 driver update from this link:

but there's no change in behavior.
any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Backup two Powerbooks to one external HD?

I am trying to figure out if I can back up my 17-inch Powerbook onto the external HD that already has a Retrospect Express backup of my 15-inch Powerbook.
