Just installed an IBM Half Height LTO 3 SAS drive.
Having trouble getting Retrospect (v7.5 on Win 2k3 64 bit) to see the device.

Inside “Storage Devices”, I can see the tape drive on the “Environment” tab.
However the device isn’t recognised on the “Status” tab.

There are no problems in the Windows Device Manager. Tape drive is flashed with the latest firmware and the Windows driver is also the latest from IBM. Windows Backup works with the drive without a problem.

In looking through the supported devices listings, I can see IBM LTO 3 and 4. But only LTO4 in the SAS configuration, others are SCSI. So I’m guessing a hardware compatibility issue.

Could someone tell me if this is right, or am I missing something?

Thanks in advance.

0x80040707

I recently purchased a new machine to be added to the fairly extensive list of computers being backed up. When the client is open on this computer, all the options and everything are greyed out. The radio button is stuck at "Off," and there's no obvious way to turn it to "On." I rotate two weeks, recycle on the weekends and do a normal backup during the week. About once a month I archive older file to tape and then to disk.
On the recycle jobs, the drive hangs during an erase procedure. I am only getting the backups to work about once a month, otherwaise they burn out with an issue of some kind.
It would be nice if we had some information on writing techniques used by Retrospect, to allow some prediction of which newer drives *might* be compatible (as in "configurable" using Retrospect's facilities).

There are sites that do detailed technical reviews on drives (cdrlabs.com, cdrinfo.com, and others), and knowing which features Retrospect depends on (Packet writing, for example) might help us choose a compatible drive.
A maxell dvd+rw works just fine.
Are "the same" media from different manufacturers really that different? Are there some that are better than others (obviously for me some maxell are better than all TDK, but I don't know if that's "universal").
I'd like to upgrade the system to a DVD writer with the following requirements.

- The new drive *MUST* be capable of reading my existing retrospect backup CDs
- The new drive must be supported by Retrospect (preferably version 6.0.206, I'll upgrade if I have to but would prefer not)
- The new drive would, ideally, cost less than $100 and would have an IDE/EIDE/ATAPI interface. (it can cost a bit more if I don't have to upgrade Retrospect)

Does such a drive exist?
